Ya, I know, more clay, but after I made the herb sticks, I had a bunch of clay left over, so decided to make some ornaments to add to our huge tree. It’s 5 feet, fake and doesn’t have a lot of branches, but it’s cute and it fits in the corner in our condo just fine.
I went to the dollar store and bought a felt snowman and snowflake doilie for a whopping $1.29, so I used it to make the imprints. It worked really great considering. I flattened out the clay, used a round cookie cutter, imprinted and used the end of a chopstick to make the hole to put the string through. I painted some white and others I kept the natural whitish clay colour. I clear gesso’d them all though.
Some of them I kept for our tree, others, I’m giving away and some I used as part of the wrapping with my presents. Be warned family – they are headed your way.
It’s our daughter’s first Christmas. I know she won’t remember anything, other than in photos in the years to come, but maybe this could be a tradition, mommy/daughter crafting nights or afternoons. Next up, is xmas baking.
